Promote Responsible Development
We live in one of the most beautiful natural environments in the country and have a God-given responsibility to protect it and use it in a responsible way. At the same time, a growing community like ours must allow for responsible growth in order to provide for the needs of the people.
I share concerns over the damage that irresponsible developers have caused in Buncombe County. I also recognize the many responsible developers who love the beauty of this area and strive to protect it while providing homes, services, and much-needed jobs for our citizens. Every profession has a few individuals who give everyone else a “black eye.” Responsible developers should be rewarded for sustainable practices while irresponsible developers must be held accountable for their destructive actions.
Our Commissioners will best serve the county by taking a balanced approach. We must take time to understand a problem and consider the consequences of any potential solution. Hasty decisions and knee-jerk reactions have caused long-term, detrimental effects, including a lack of affordable housing. By making informed, thoughtful decisions we can protect the natural beauty of Buncombe County and the rights and needs of our people at the same time.
