Create Local Jobs

Small businesses are the backbone of our community’s economy. They create most of our local jobs and they keep our money right here in Buncombe County. We must allow these companies to thrive if we are to protect our local economy. Regulations that harm our local businesses also cause harm to our entire community.

At the same time, many companies that want to move to Buncombe County can’t find qualified workers. Developing training programs for these higher paying jobs must be our county’s top priority. With the help of AB Technical College and grants from the state, we can fill these jobs with local workers.

I have personally been involved in helping RealServ, LLC, to potentially bring such a program to Buncombe County (as reported in the Asheville Citizen-Times, June 26, 2008). RealServ may bring 630 jobs with a starting salary of $35,000 per year plus benefits. This is the type of community activity in which our County Commissioners should be engaging.
